The Star Anise is a spice formed from evergreen plants that are scientifically known as the Illicium verum. Originating from southern China, the star anise has a sense of liquor or anise-like, although it is not related to anise plants originating from the Mediterranean and Middle East region. Rich with syricimic acid
Star anise is a major source of sylmic acid, a plant-based compound which is a source of oseltamivir, an anti-viral drug marketed as Tamiflu. According to an article in the 2011 issue of “Alternative Medicine Review.”
Although the sylmic acid is also naturally in ginkgo and sweetgum fruits, the star anise has much greater concentration. Italian researchers have tested syricemic acid in combination with quercetin, a rich antioxidant-based nutrient plant to see if it can enhance immune function to help fight flu or other viral infections.
Although syricimic acid only has little or no effect on immune function, its combination with quercetin in low dosage helps to improve the immune function better to fight the viral infection. Researchers published their findings in the April 2008 issue of the “Journal of Medical Virology.”

Researchers in Taiwan tested four new antimicrobial compounds from the star anise and found that it was effective against 67 types of bacteria that are immune to the medication. Their study in the October 2010 issue of the “Food Medical Journal” researchers reported that their findings paved the way for the development of new antibiotic drugs from the studied of star anise compound

Special Recipes of Delicious Star Anise :
- 300 ml Water
- 4-5 dried fruits Star anise
- 1 teaspoon Honey
- 5 star anise dried fruits, water, one teaspoon of honey.
- Take dried anise seeds in a mortar.
- Crush well with a pestle. Crushing anise seeds is required in order to release the compounds present in it when reacting with oxygen.
- Place the crushed anise seeds in a teapot infuser.
- Pour boiling hot water over the seeds.
- Add honey. Anise has a naturally strong flavour and hence do not add too much honey.
- Cover with a lid and allow to steep in for 10 minutes.
- Remove the infuser.
- Pour the tea into a cup.
- Enjoy the aromatic tea!
